Opsview is a software company specializing in enterprise systems monitoring software for physical, virtual, and cloud-based IT infrastructures. Its headquarters is in Reading, England, with a US office in Woburn, Massachusetts. The product provides a single, unified view of IT operations. The company claims that more than 60,000 businesses and service providers use Opsview to manage their network devices, physical and virtual servers, storage and cloud systems.

Opsview offers a free version, Opsview ATOM, which is limited to 25 monitored hosts. It sells Opsview Pro to SMBs and Opsview Enterprise to larger organizations under a proprietary license. As of March 4, 2015, Opsview Core, the version formerly available via the terms of the GPL, has been discontinued.

Technology

Opsview is built with the following technologies:

  • Nagios Core: Provides the core set of monitoring and alerting capabilities in Opsview. Sometimes referred to as Opsview's monitoring engine.
  • Perl: The primary programming language used for Opsview
  • Catalyst: A MVC Web application framework used for building the web application
  • ExtJS: a JavaScript library used for building the dashboard in Opsview Pro and Opsview Enterprise
  • MySQL: A relational database used for configuration, runtime and data warehouse databases
  • Net-SNMP: Provides SNMP support
  • RRDtool: Provides lightweight graphing

Opsview runs on Linux with official support for the following distributions: CentOS, Debian, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu.

  • 2015 - Opsview Atom launched, including dashboards, security wallet, autodiscovery, business service monitoring and SNMP trap processing, free for up to 25 devices.
  • 2015 - Opsview Monitor 5.0 released, including new dashboards, new Graph Center, added configuration capabilities, and a new Knowledge Center.
  • 2016 - Opsview Monitor 5.1 released, including new My Links shared URLs, Change Log, Host Status within the Problem View, and ability to set Homepages.
  • 2016 - Opsview Monitor 5.2 released, including new Opspack Marketplace, significant performance improvements and redesigned Mass Actions.
  • 2017 - Opsview Monitor 5.3 released, including full integration with InfluxDB as well as new Opspacks HAProxy, MongoDB and Varnish Cache.
  • 2017 - Opsview Monitor Mobile launched - New iOS and Android apps released, featuring an entirely redesigned user interface.
  • 2017 - Opsview Monitor 5.4 released, including unified Business Service Monitoring View, cloud-scale extensibility (Google Cloud, AWS), plus a range of Opspack plugins to use.

Awards

  • Opsview won the 2008 LinuxWorld Product Excellence award for Best System Management Tool.
  • Opsview Enterprise 3.10 won the 2011 Techworld One to Watch award at their annual awards ceremony
